January 21, 2010

Travel journalist and former Monty Python star Michael Palin helped officially launch Wrexham and Shropshire Railway’s new trains into passenger service during a short ceremony at Marylebone station.

The train operator has now taken delivery of all 4 of its refurbished trains, a total investment of £5.5m, which operate between Wrexham and London Marylebone.

Andy Hamilton, MD of WSR, said “Everything we do is focussed  on the needs of our customers.” he then gave an example of this ” Most of our seats are around tables, because that is what people tell us they want.”

Andy went on to say how some passengers like to purchase a ticket on the train, especially if there is a queue at the booking office  ” You can buy a ticket onboard our trains without being treated like a criminal!”

WSR has seen a massive increase of 88.8% passenger growth over the last 12 months and Michael Palin praised the operator’s standard of service by saying  ”For me, Wrexham and Shropshire is a pioneer, setting an example of high service standards which other lines would do well to follow.”
