As part of the 10:10 campaign Southeastern has committed itself to reduce its total site energy by 10%. The train operator is believed to be the first rail company to sign up to the national drive.

Southeastern’s fleet comprises only electric trains and the company has already reduced its carbon footprint by almost 20%, this is in addition to their recycling scheme that saw 1,792 tonnes of waste recycled in 2009.

Drivers have also been trained to drive in a more energy efficient manner and regenerative braking has been introduced.

The 10:10 campaign is aimed at encouraging businesses and individuals to help reduce the UK’s emissions by 10% during 2010.
